Conférence – Archéologie de la seconde guerre mondiale en Provence
After the celebrations, this event is forgotten, with the consequence that its memorial traces disappear.
These archaeological remains are exceptional witnesses to the history of the Second World War and the past. Unfortunately, they are subject to daily destruction and looting, both on land and underwater.
Because the last actors in these events have disappeared, it is up to us collectively to take all useful actions to preserve their memory, and in particular, that of the very vulnerable ground archives.
These vestiges of the past are now an integral part of archaeology. They warrant study and protection. All these modest or monumental constructions identified on land and underwater, as well as the objects attached to them, are fragments of a memory that make history.
They are unique and fragile testimonies of the commitment of thousands of men and women fighters, resistance fighters and prisoners.
The conference offers an invitation to take a look at this recent history.
