Conférence – Peintres de la couleur en Provence de 1870 à 1920
From the 1860s, Marseilles-born Monticelli, in his use of pure colours, prefigured the Fauves and fascinated Van Gogh who, thanks to him, dared to look the sun straight in the face.
The Impressionists (Monet, Renoir, etc.) and the Pointillists (Cross, Signac, Van Rysselbergh, etc.) settled in their turn, dazzled by this lighting which, at first, frightened them; as for Cézanne, an essential native, he revolutionized painting.
Bonnard, Matisse, Picasso De Staël… all drew in their own way from this Homeric Provence, contributing in turn to strengthening its legend and making it shine throughout the world.
A richly illustrated conference led with a drumbeat by Annette Gelinet, a seasoned speaker who has already delighted the audience at the Borméen museum on several occasions.
