Exposition sculpture et peinture – Cam' et Florence Gillot
After having travelled for 42 years, promoting automation components to French manufacturers, the attraction to wood, already exercised in some sculptures, was able to find its growth through the hiking competition in the Massif des Maures.
Having discovered, during these pedestrian and forest explorations, these roots exposed by the clearing of the paths, the decision was made to bring these evocative forms back to life. My pareidolia at the service of poetry. Often a root or stump can offer several representations on the same work.
Nature suggested that it was enough to give it a little push to highlight everything it suggested, and thus it would be possible to reconcile human exploitation and ecology.
It is a real pleasure to give a second life to these pieces of roots, doomed to destruction, through our fertile imagination.
The production technique uses only files, saws, cutters, gouges, and abrasives, therefore the carbon footprint is limited.
There are advantages to using roots:
The part remaining when the tree is dead, therefore the most resistant.
The most tortured forms, the roots must find their way in hostile terrain, bypassing stones and other roots, seeking the most suitable places to assimilate nutrients and water.
The most petrified by time and resin.
Florence Gillot: I present works with varied themes: landscapes, still lifes and some compositions.
In each of my paintings, light and its contrasts play a key role. They can also give them a dreamlike, mysterious, meditative, or poetic dimension. I seek to arouse emotion through the chosen subject, the technique used, and also the color palette.
