The Seven Last Words of Christ – J. Haydn Laurence MONTI, Frédéric Moreau, Violins – Aurélie ENTRINGER, viola – Eric COURREGES, cello
This work, of which there are three versions by Haydn, was commissioned by the composer for the church of Santa Cueva in Cadiz; it was purely orchestral music intended to illustrate the Seven Words of Christ during the liturgy. The version for string quartet, from the same year, was long associated with Haydn's quartets.
