The project of the Path of the Wise was born during a session of the Council of Elders, made up of 9 women and 9 men aged 60 and over, chosen for their wise experience by the Municipal Councillors. On that day, the subject of reflection was the question of how to bring our republican motto “Liberty, Equality, Fraternity” to life?
The birth of the Path of the Sages
The idea germinated that sprinkle the city with sentences emanating from famous women and men, globally recognized for their wisdom and their humanism, could challenge the awareness of passers-by Borméens as tourists. In order to justify this bold and innovative project in the eyes of the Mayor and his Municipal Council, the decision is taken to combine this route with historical plaques which were to be installed on the city's emblematic monuments. The members of the Council of Elders then determined the route of this path within the medieval village and worked on the support, texts, images and symbols of these plates.

The museum and its past lives
The building is one of the most old residences of the city, built in mid-17th century in the Ovens Street, the first street outside the castle walls. The street was renamed Grande Rue then rue Carnot in 1894 in honor of the president of the same name.
Le building had different functions over time. It has been used as municipal school from 1660, hosting a small school for boys. Later, teachers taught Christian virtue to young girls in another location in the village. It also served as a common house, sheltering the city council meetings, elections and popular debates and has even been used as prison and court for minor cases. In 1788, Due to the dilapidated state of the building and the increase in the number of students, the municipality considered construction of a new town hall-school.
En 1892 this new town hall-school is built on the Saint Francis Square separate the court and prison from the school. THEold building has been abandoned and was almost demolished, but it was finally saved. In 1934, Lucien Metzger, a Parisian antique dealer, has acquired part of the building and undertook restorations and enlargements with his wife. They linked the two buildings, added a floor, created a large living room and restored the ceilings.
In 1978, the municipality bought the building to turn it into Museum, called the Charles Cazin Museum. Personalized renovation and development work were undertaken, and the building was open to the public. Since then, it has been home to exhibitions and various cultural activities. In 1982, restoration work was carried out, including the renovation of the façade in 1983. Thus, the building has crossed different eras by contributing to the history and culture of the city of Bormes the Mimosas.
