Musee d'Anthropologie Préhistorique de Monaco

The Museum of Prehistoric Anthropology was founded by Prince Albert I in 1902 "in order to preserve the remains of primitive humankind exhumed from the soil of the Principality and surrounding regions."
It was established within the grounds of the Exotic Garden by Prince Rainier III in 1959. This new building is the work of the Monegasque architect Louis Rué.

The collections on display allow us to trace, through the glacial and interglacial periods, the major stages of the evolution of humanity. They teach us that more than a million years ago, the Côte d'Azur was already a privileged habitat site for our distant ancestors. As a research institute, the Museum carries out field excavations, conducts laboratory studies and publishes an annual scientific bulletin.
