Muséum départemental du Var

The challenge is to raise public awareness of the diversity of specimens from entomology (27 insects listed), herpetology (000 specimens) which studies the amphibians and reptiles of the Var or the Hermann's tortoise (the Var terrestrial reptiles correspond to 61% of the wealth of mainland France) and mammology (of the 70 terrestrial mammals represented, 250 are present in the Var).
The museum has 978 species of birds in its collections, including many present in our department which ranks among the richest in France thanks to 167 species of nesting birds.
With a palette of around 2500 plants, the flora of the Var is also one of the most notable in France.
The museum also brings together display cases devoted to prehistory, mineralogy, ethnology and paleontology, allowing the observation of a pterosaur skeleton, fossils and remarkable agricultural tools.
