Located in a beautiful garden, this natural history Museum offers permanent collection, temporary exhibitions and animations.
The aim is to raise public awareness of the diversity of specimens from entomology (27,000 insects listed), herpetology (61 specimens), which studies the amphibians and reptiles of the Var or Hermann's Tortoise (the terrestrial reptiles of the Var correspond to 70% of the richness of metropolitan France) and mammology (of the 250 terrestrial mammals represented, 70 are present in the Var).
The museum’s collections include 978 species of birds, many of which can be found in our department, which ranks among the richest in France thanks to 167 species of breeding birds.
With a palette of some 2,500 plants, the flora of the Var is also one of the most noteworthy in France.
The museum also features displays devoted to prehistory, mineralogy, ethnology and paleontology, including a pterosaur skeleton, fossils and remarkable farming tools.
